Medical device maker Tornier announced Friday that it will close some of its operations in the U.S. and Europe and consolidate the work to other locations.

The company that makes surgical products for orthopedic extremity specialists said that it will consolidate its distribution center in Stafford, Texas to Minnesota. Tornier plans to consolidate Texas operations with its U.S.-based marketing, training, regulatory, clinical, supply chain and corporate functions into a single Minneapolis-area leased site.

Multiple European facilities. including those in St. Ismier, France and Dunmanway, Ireland are being consolidated into nearby Tornier locations. The move will lead to savings of $2.3 million to $2.8 million in 2013. The company will record most of the $6 million to $7 million restructuring charge in 2012.

Tornier’s global headquarters are in Amsterdam and it maintains its U.S. base in Edina, Minnesota.

“The facility consolidations will bring key components of our product delivery chain together, facilitating communications and enabling greater productivity as anticipated by our current operational plans,” said Douglas Kohrs, Tornier’s president and CEO in a news release.
