On June 06, GE Healthcare announced its recent acquisition of Omnimed, a Brazilian manufacturer of mining equipment monitoring vital functions used in  surgery centers and Intensive Care Units (ICU).  GE did not disclose the acquisition amount, but should result in a gain of 50% in sales of Brazilian division of GE.

Headquartered in Belo Horizonte, the Omnimed is the second acquisition of GE Healthcare in Brazil. In 2012, XPro maker (also from Minas Gerais) of X-ray machines for cardiology, neurology and interventional radiology, was also acquired by GE Healthcare.

According to the company, local purchases are part of the expansion plan in the medical equipment market – led by Dutch Philips in Brazil. There is also the intention to export machines manufactured here to other markets.

GE Healthcare has been aggressively positioning itself in the Brazilian market. It will soon gain significant market share and dominate the healthcare market in Brazil.
