According to a press release, GE Capital’s Healthcare Financial Services has named Brett B. Haring leader of its Life Sciences Finance business.

Haring has worked for GE Capital for 25 years, mostly in GE Capital’s equipment finance business. Recently, he was senior managing director of GE Capital’s Corporate Finance business for the U.S. eastern and western region. He’ll continue to be based in the Bay Area in his new role.

Since its launch in 1988, the Life Sciences Finance business has funded early-stage biotech, pharma and device companies and worked closely with venture capitalists who specialize in healthcare.

The division has committed more than $2.3 billion in debt and equity financing to over 500 emerging healthcare companies since 2000. It has deployed approximately $9 billion in new commitments to customers in more than 200 transactions in 2013.

“The life sciences space is extremely exciting. These are relatively young companies that are working to solve problems that are crucial for the health of our society,” Haring said.
