Many veterans have unfortunately been left injured and paralyzed after serving overseas in the armed forces. For some, they now are actually able to experience standing and walking again thanks to technology like the bionic suit created by Ekso Bionics.
One of those people is Dan Rose, who received his Ekso suit thanks to donations and funding with Soldier Socks, an organization dedicated to helping returning veterans. The audience on WWE Smackdown Friday applauded and chanted his name as he demonstrated how the suit works.
Chris Meek, Founder and Chairman of Soldier Socks shared Dan’s story in honor of the holiday:
Dan Rose was in the Army Reserves for 10 years and served in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in Southern Afghanistan. On April 27, 2011 during a routine sweep for Improvised Explosive Devices, Dan’s vehicle ran over 1,000 pounds of explosives and he was left paralyzed from the chest down. I’m proud to say that we have been able to help Dan thanks to the tremendous support from our partners and donors. We outfitted SGT Rose with an Ekso Bionics GT robotic exoskeleton, which has allowed him to walk again.
The technology was featured at FuturMed early 2013 and came on the market this year.
