Health IT startup Dabo Health, which has developed a way to help nurses, physicians, and front line staff view a hospital’s comparative analytics in areas such as readmission and best practice, is moving its headquarters to Philadelphia from San Francisco and added a veteran health system exec as the CEO.

Camilo Barcenas founded Dabo and until recently was CEO. He has taken a chief development officer role. He said in the statement that the company has worked with 300 hospitals to date. The design and engineering team are staying put in San Francisco.

Robert Stanek the new CEO, previously worked as the head of Catholic Health East until he retired. He had spent 13 years there, initially joining the senior management team before he rose to COO and then CEO. The health system includes 34 acute care hospitals, four long-term acute care hospitals, 25 freestanding and hospital-based long-term care facilities, and 14 assisted-living facilities. It also has four continuing care retirement communities, eight behavioral health and rehabilitation facilities, and several home health and hospice agencies, along with ambulatory and community-based health services.

Stanek explained what he liked about Dabo Health’s approach in a company statement.

“Dabo Health has developed a highly innovative and differentiated online and mobile visualization platform for providers and payers to make key performance metrics accessible and actionable, while identifying best practices to improve care quality and reduce costs.” He added: “In my experience, when you empower the hands-on healthcare provider—a physician or a nurse—you have the opportunity to derive the best possible outcome for the patient. Dabo Health was founded by a visionary whose background has been predicated around improving patient care by implementing innovation solutions.”

One of Dabo’s goals is to give hospitals the tools they need to avoid incurring patient readmission penalties for Medicare patients. It initially focused on readmission rates and mortality rates for three health conditions: heart attack, heart failure and pneumonia. It began a pilot with the Mayo Clinic in 2012 focusing on cardiology and is in the midst of completing that project.

Among its backers are aeris Capital, Albany Holdings and Safeguard Scientifics.
