Kinnser Software recently rolled out a mobile application for the growing home health field that is says enables clinicians to complete documentation within the EMR, even without access to the web or cellular service.

The field of home health is expected to grow in importance as hospitals look for ways to curb readmission rates for certain, more vulnerable populations, notably seniors but also individuals with other chronic illnesses. In addition, the home health industry can likely benefit from that development by making it easier with mobile technology for the clinician to complete documentation at the point of care, according to Kinnser. “Agencies can increase the accuracy of their clinical data and improve care,” the Austin, TX.-based company said.

The app can also reduce errors and increase accuracy on matters related to billing and quality assurance, the company says.

Kinnser cited a survey that said three-fourths of home health industry leaders view mobile devices like tables and smartphones as vital tools to improve business and care. And mobile devices account for nearly 40 percent of clinicians’ digital time working, Kinnser said, adding that it hopes to meet the demand with its mobile software particularly for more rural areas that lack stable internet connection.

Kinnser said its data within the app, Kinnser Link, is fully encrypted. It works this way: using any internet-enabled tablet, clinicians load the documents they are scheduled to use that day –– through their Kinnser Hotbox –– into the HIPAA-compliant Kinnser Link app. The documents can then be accessed with no internet access. Later, when web access is regained, the previously saved documents can be selected and sent to the agency’s online EMR.

The app is compatible with both iOS and Android tablets.
