It can be challenging to keep up with which startups are coming into the healthcare scene around the globe, especially because most directories only keep track of those getting venture capital funding. But a new website, StartupBlink, is providing access to actually view the entrepreneurial landscape on an interactive map.

Here’s the map for the “Health Care” category of startups (this is a broad category – pharma, biotechnology, 3D printing, app development, etc. all have separate categories):

The Switzerland-based site was started by Roderick Warren and Eli David and is being championed by Guy Kawasaki. Basically it allows you to choose whether you want to look at startups, incubators, freelancers, accelerators, etc.

The site includes various industries, but you can categorize which field you want to visualize on the map, and the individual results are listed left of the map where you can scroll and click to read more about a company, for example. With accelerators, you can narrow the search by the investment range. (As you can see below, pop-ups do appear on the bottom offering the option to connect if you want to hire freelancers – so it’s kind of a resource/job recruiting combo in a way.)

Another interesting feature is the “blink” option for those on the site. “The site enables startups to post real time updates by ‘blinking’ their news on a world map for everyone to see and follow,” the site explains. “The ‘blinking’ provides followers instant and up to date information regarding a startup’s goals, milestones reached, job recruiting, questions, and status. Blinks are also visible by search engines.”

Entities can register themselves to the site. So far there are about 70,000 included in the system. Once you navigate the list on the left of the screen with company names, you can click to learn more or make contact.

Pretty cool stuff. Be careful though, you could easily lose a few hours of work just clicking through this site. It’s extensive, and who doesn’t love an interactive map.
