Validic has been adding a diverse group of companies interested in using its data aggregation tools to unharness data from devices and apps. But in a move that is likely to accelerate that trend, it has begun offering its API to healthcare entrepreneurs to connect their own products to Validic’s network.

It is making the API available through Validic Connect. The significance of the move means that early stage startups as well as established companies can connect to its network of providers, pharmaceutical companies, wearables, payers and other health IT businesses. It could add to the value of their digital health tools.

It added 27 clinically focused devices in the first quarter, which accounted for the majority of the 36 devices added to its network in that period. They represented a variety of health IT companies not just in their applications but also their size. Big name wearables companies such as Fitbit, Garmin and Jawbone added their latest devices to the network. But there were also devices from younger, smaller businesses such as Good Lux Technology, which added its SunSprite mobile device and app to track sun exposure partly as a way to address seasonal depression. Health IT vendor Cerner was also a big addition to the network in Q1.

Validic finished up its work to integrate its network with Apple HealthKit and has launched it in Beta to its clients. The move will give users the ability to integrate Apple Health data into their iOS applications.

The ability to contextualize patient data through these kind of aggregation tools has been the source of a lot of interest in platforms like Validic. As the market is beginning to shift towards more in-home clinical data, the company wants to provide access to devices that help its clients to integrate this data, particularly as EHR providers such as Cerner and Meditech integrate this data.
