VasectoPeaz: The best bit of swag from #AUA15

VasectoPeaz

A pack of pea-sized beads tucked into a pair of snug boxers: The best bit of swag from the American Urological Association’s 2015 convention this week in New Orleans.

Built by Chicago startup FrozenPeaz, the product – called VasectoPeaz – biomimics the frozen peas we use on our foreheads more often than we do on the dinner table. The marketing language is, ahem, ballsy: “VasectoPeaz: For when you go all juice and no seedz.”

The boxers and Peaz cost $29.99, founder MaryCarol Dolivier said.

Six out of six urologists, surveyed informally as they circled the VasectoPeaz booth at #AUA15, said they would recommend VasectoPeaz to their patients.

“After a vasectomy, we always suggest patients use frozen peas,” said Dr. Geoffrey Kostiner, a Virginia-based urologist. “This could be better.”

The physicians rattled off a list of potential uses for these enhanced underpants: Vasectomy reversal (vasectomy regrettal, as the docs call it), acute epididymitis surgery, hydrocelectomy, spermatocelectomy, orchiectomy, varicocelectomy – any scrotal surgery, really.

The peas are made up of Zemia propanediol, a solvent typically used in cosmetics that can be heated or cooled. They fit into a Peaz-sized pocket inside the boxer shorts, which can be worn fairly comfortably throughout the day.

The vasectomy line is just one component of FrozenPeaz’s line – it’s got wraps and compresses for the limbs, back, neck and head as well.
