Insight Genetics, a Tennessee molecular diagnostics startup that centers on applying precision medicine principles to cancer treatment, just raised $3 million, according to a regulatory filing.
The company’s developing companion diagnostics for an array of lung, breast and thyroid cancers, as well as some lymphomas and neuroblastomas. It aims to help doctors determine the appropriate course of treatment for a patient freshly diagnosed with cancer.
Of note, it is developing an assay to detect non-small cell lung cancer – led by Dr. Stephan Morris, who helped discover the ALK oncogene. The company is working on transitioning its traditional assays so they’re compatible with liquid biopsy testing – identifying circulating free DNA, RNA and DNA from circulating tumor cells and exosomes.
