Even as the rate of new cases of Type 2 diabetes declines, this patient population risks developing complications from the chronic condition. One of them is diabetic retinopathy, which can cause blindness. A digital health startup developing a way to screen diabetes patients for diabetic retinopathy has closed a Series A round. HealPros said it will use the funding to expand its mobile diabetic retinopathy program to 25 states by the end of the first quarter of 2016.
HealPros secured funding from Sopris Capital, according to a company statement. It claimed to have secured multiple agreements with some of the country’s largest health insurance companies.
Sopris Capital only has one other current healthcare investment, according to its website: TurningPoint Healthcare.
