NarrativeDx raises $1.1M to beef up sales team in expansion of patient experience analytics

It secured investment from DreamIt Ventures as well as Live Oak Venture Partners.

NarrativeDx DashboardNarrativeDx, a health IT startup that uses natural language processing in an analytics tool to add context to patient satisfaction surveys, has raised $1.1 million. The follow-on funding will be used to add sales staff as part of its expansion, according to CEO and co-founder Kyle Robertson in an interview at SXSW.

The company took part in the Dreamit Health accelerator in 2014. It secured investment from Dreamit as well as Live Oak Venture Partners.

Last year, it raised $500,00 in a seed funding from Austin-based angel syndicate Capital Factory and Silverstone Partners co-led the round.

Robertson said the business has “been growing rapidly” in the past year. Two of its newest clients are Christiana Care Health System, the largest hospital system in Delaware, and Stanford Children’s Hospital.

On the product development front, Robertson said it developed an adaptive rounding tool to generate questions to ask patients in real time, based on what is going on at that specific facility.

Asked if he has seen many companies move into the patient feedback space, Robertson said, “Patient experience is really hot in healthcare, and there are lots of companies attacking it from different angles. We are the only one I know of doing natural language processing on comments to improve patient experience.”
