Dr. Boris Nikolic, science advisor to none other than Bill Gates, is launching a new life sciences fund. Seattle-based Biomatics Capital Partners is looking to raise $150 million, according to a regulatory filing.
Nikolic, a Harvard physician with a background in immunology, advised Gates’ Catalyst 3 (bgc3) as well as the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. He led a $120 million round in which Gates and 12 other investors last August funded the hot CRISPR gene editing startup Editas Medicine. He also participated in a $61 million round this year for Twist Biosciences, a synthetic DNA startup.

Also on the regulatory filing is Julie Sunderland, who remains listed by the Emerging Markets Private Equity Association as the director of program-listed investments at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
Earlier this year, Biomatics was listed as an investor in the $12.25 million Series A round for AiCure, a New York-based artificial intelligence company that uses mobile tools to confirm patients have ingested their pills.
