Revenue-cycle management service provider MedData, a unit of publicly traded Mednax Services, has acquired patient engagement and mobile health technology developer Duet Health, Columbus, Ohio. Terms were not disclosed.

Duet Health provides white-labeled control centers for patient communication and population health management, packaged in Web, mobile or kiosk formats. These facilitate sending of secure messages — including images and video — retrieval of on-call schedules and directories, plus other features to monitor clinician-patient interactions.

Duet’s premise is that patients forget 80 percent of what physicians tell them during typical office visits. Duet has developed a Patient Intelligence Index to score patient engagement efforts.

“This acquisition immediately gives hospitals and providers access to some of the best tools available and a technology platform that will extend their reach and transform their approach to patient engagement,” MedData CEO Ann Barnes said in a statement.

“Coupled with our suite of patient-focused services, including eligibility and enrollment, third-party liability and patient reimbursement, clients have a more complete solution to deal with the growing issue of patient responsibility,” Barnes added.

Conversely, Duet Health management saw this acquisition as a chance to reach a broader customer base and achieve tighter integration with provider workflow, according to CEO and Co-founder Jeff Harper. “Delivering impactful solutions that improve outcomes, increase patient satisfaction, and ultimately boost productivity and ROI will continue to be our focus – but MedData gives us the ability to better scale development and deliver solutions faster to our clients,” Harper said.
