Huron Consulting Group, one of the larger players in health IT-related business process outsourcing, is buying smaller competitor Healthcare Services Management (HSM) for an undisclosed sum. The deal will give Huron Consulting implementation capabilities for virtually the full range” of commercial electronic health record products, the Chicago-based company said.
“Within [EHRs], for the most part, we have had an Epic practice,” said Jim Gallas, managing director of Huron’s healthcare practice. “We wanted to be able to do much the same with other vendors.”
The Power Behind Enterprise EHR Software for Large Healthcare Systems
Enterprise EHR boosts scalability, interoperability, and governance for large healthcare systems.
Huron Consulting moved into implementation of Epic Systems EHRs with the 2014 acquisition of Vonlay, which, like Epic, is located just outside Madison, Wisconsin. “That got us the Epic capabilities, but that’s all we had,” Gallas said.
HSM, of Quincy, Massachusetts, provides health IT and management consulting services, particularly for customers of Cerner, Meditech, Allscripts, NextGen Healthcare Information Systems and McKesson. It also offers expertise in Accountable Care Organizations, data analytics, health information exchange, revenue-cycle management and health IT system evaluation.
“These are IT and strategic advisory services that we didn’t have,” Gallas said. “It’s a nice fit.”
The two companies expect the deal to close in August.
