Doctor.com M&A deal number 2 gives it provider directory

Andrei Zimiles, CEO of Doctor.com, explained in an email that the deal makes the entire Connect Healthcare team of 30 people based in Atlanta, its client base of 150 hospitals and health systems, and all company technology and assets part of Doctor.com

Doctor.com, a physician practice management startup, has made its second M&A deal in two years. Its deal with Connect Health will consolidate the businesses and merge them under Doctor.com’s brand, according to a company news release.  The merger was funded by a group of investors including Spring Mountain Capital, StartUp Health and Colle Capital, although the terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Connect Healthcare stores the data of 1.2 million providers and has 7.5 million unique users. Its hospital partners include UNC Health Care, UC San Diego Health, Brigham & Women’s Hospital, Rush University Medical Center, UAB Medicine and Emory University.

Andrei Zimiles, CEO of Doctor.com, explained in an email that the entire Connect Healthcare team (roughly 30 people in the Atlanta area, all of whom focus on supporting hospitals and health systems), their client base of 150 hospitals and health systems, and all company technology and assets became part of Doctor.com with the deal.
“Connect Healthcare has for years had the ‘system of record’ for hospital provider directories. Our solutions align with this incredibly well because the same data and workflows used to make provider data actionable for use on a hospital’s own website can be sent through our syndication platform to our partner network that includes Google, Yelp, Bing, Healthgrades, Vitals, YP.com, Wellness.com, and others. In addition, the universal online scheduling solution we launched earlier this year is already integrated with the Connect Healthcare provider directory platform to make it easy for hospitals to turn on online scheduling on their own sites.”

As part of the deal, Noel Coleman, Connect Healthcare president, will join Doctor.com as president of Enterprise Solutions, according to a news release. Connect Healthcare’s team will work with Doctor.com’s enterprise sales and product development team. The Enterprise team will continue to operate out of their headquarters in Atlanta, GA and is expected to grow substantially in the months ahead.

Last year, Doctor.com acquired ReferBright, which develops software to help physicians improve referrals in part by improving their visibility online to attract more patients to their practices.
