Amazon’s foray into healthcare is looking all the more certain.

The Seattle-based company is looking to hire a “HIPAA compliance lead,” according to a job listing on its site.

Amazon said the candidate will work on elements of “a new initiative.” He or she will be responsible for developing a HIPAA security and compliance program. Additional duties include keeping track of relevant federal and state regulations and serving as a consultative resource for healthcare regulatory issues.

The company prefers someone with five or more year of HIPAA experience, as well as experience with the FDA and 510(k) process.

Amazon did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

According to CNBC, one reason behind Amazon’s hunt for a HIPAA expert could be a desire to boost its efforts to bring Alexa to healthcare. Alexa isn’t currently HIPAA compliant, CNBC noted.

Last year, the tech giant made a number of healthcare-related moves.

In July, CNBC reported that Amazon created a health tech-focused lab called 1492. The lab’s team is reportedly looking at building a telemedicine platform and examining ways of making EHRs more accessible to physicians and patients.

Articles about the company’s plans to break into the pharmacy sector have been met with a variety of perspectives.

And together with numerous drugmakers, the company invested in Grail, Illumina’s diagnostics startup, at the beginning of 2017.

Hate it or love it, Amazon seems to be taking a pretty serious interest in healthcare. Only time will tell how the situation turns out.
