Meet the health IT startups taking part in the MedCity INVEST Pitch Perfect contest

The health IT companies in the Pitch Perfect competition at MedCity INVEST in Chicago May 1-2 span clinical decision support, care coordination and second opinion services. In addition to health IT, biopharma, diagnostics, medical devices and health services will also take part.

It’s an exciting time to be a healthcare entrepreneur. Health IT investment is at record levels, buoyed by the need for technology that will support the journey to value-based care, reduce hospitalization, cut down on waste, and improve care coordination. These are among the priorities for startups taking part in the upcoming MedCity INVEST Pitch Perfect competition from May 1-2 in Chicago.

The competition spans the healthcare and life science industries with categories that include: biopharma, diagnostics, medical devices, health IT and health services.  Startups will have a few minutes to present after which judges will pepper them with questions about their strategy and business plans.

Here is a look at some of the startups taking part in the health IT track of the competition.

Ariel Precision Medicine developed genetic testing and clinical decision support tools to support patients with complex chronic diseases.

Astarte Medical Partners has a clinical decision support tool aimed at improving healthcare for preterm infants by standardizing care and quantifying gut health through a vital sign for the gut.

Care Advisors developed an on-demand marketplace to instantly work with the best healthcare navigation experts in the local community and eliminate losses from uninsured patients.

HealthTech Solutions  Based at the MATTER incubator in Chicago, the startup uses artificial intelligence to improve communication in order to reduce organ discards — more than half of donated organs go unused in the U.S. each year.

Keriton takes on the challenge of breast milk management with the development of lactation analytics and patient engagement for neonatal ICUs to improve process efficiency, patient safety, and breastmilk production outcomes.

Kiio goes after the lower back pain market, automating proven treatment pathways, avoiding opioids and costly, ineffective procedures.

Moving Analytics developed Movn – a digital secondary prevention program designed to reverses the impact of cardiovascular disease through virtual, home-based cardiac rehabilitation.

Ocuvera uses depth cameras combined with artificial intelligence to anticipate and prevent unattended bed exits, which commonly lead to damaging inpatient falls.

Rx.Health Formerly Responsive Health, the Mount Sinai Health System spinoff is dedicated to advancing the prescribing evidence-based mobile health applications through its flagship product, RxUniverse.

Second Opinion Expert enlists telemedicine platforms to support its medical second opinion service focused on cardiology. The company’s cloud-based solution called XperTeleRadiology helps manage medical images and data which is used by radiology centers to view, remote interpretation and reporting.
