Accenture has announced the four North America-based finalists of its third annual HealthTech Innovation Challenge. The competition, which is part of Accenture’s broader HealthTech Innovation program, brings startups, life sciences companies and healthcare organizations together to tackle healthcare issues.
The three categories of the Accenture HealthTech Innovation Challenge include keeping the population healthy through wellness and prevention, using digital solutions to improve patient outcomes and improving healthcare delivery for patients.

The four North American finalists were selected by executives from health and life sciences companies during an event in Boston. Similar events were also held in Dublin, Tokyo and Sydney. There are 10 finalists in total.
The final round and awards ceremony will be at the StartUp Health Festival during the JP Morgan Healthcare Conference on January 7.
Here’s a closer look at the four North American finalists and the problems they’re seeking to solve.
Ayasdi, which is headquartered in Menlo Park, California, has a machine intelligence platform featuring an application development framework that allows clients to create intelligent applications. Organizations can use the applications for clinical variation management, population risk assessment, claim denial management and fraudulent claim detection.
Based in Baltimore, b.well Connected Health offers a platform for consumer engagement, holistic health management and cost containment. With the solution, individuals can access their medical records, get personalized services and manage their insurance and financials.
Newtopia, which has offices in New York City and Toronto, is a precision health company focused on changing patients’ habits to prevent chronic disease. The organization works to prevent the onset of disease for those at risk of developing obesity, type 2 diabetes, heart disease and stroke.
Chicago-based NowPow connects people to resources to address their chronic health and social conditions or stay well. It has a platform that includes a community resource directory, social determinants of health screenings, resource matching algorithms and closed loop referrals.
