Documentation AI startup Ambience Healthcare appointed Mike Valli as its new chief revenue officer. Valli comes to the company from symplr, where he served as chief commercial officer. Before that, he spent nine years at Optum and seven years at Huron.
Jay Bhattacharya, director of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), became the acting director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The temporary appointment comes amid ongoing leadership turnover at the CDC and as the Trump administration weighs a permanent nominee to lead the agency.
DexCare, a startup offering health systems a platform to help them coordinate and manage digital care, hired Ravi Doddivaripall as its chief technology officer. In the past, Doddivaripall has held leadership roles at Innovaccer and Delta Dental of California.

Sidecar Health, a health insurance company for employers, named Sharath Pasupunuti its new chief technology officer. He comes to the organization from Hinge Health, where he served as senior vice president of engineering. Before Hinge, he spent roughly nine years at GE Healthcare in engineering leadership positions.
Katie Patel joined healthcare software company symplr as its new chief delivery officer. In the past, she has held leadership roles at R1 RCM and Waystar.
Care coordination platform Viz.ai appointed Jallel Harrati as its new chief revenue officer. He comes to the company from Suki, and before that, he worked in leadership roles at IBM and Philips Healthcare.
Vynca, which offers palliative care technology and services, welcomed Jill Schwartz-Chevlin as its new chief medical officer. In the past, she has held leadership positions at Landmark Health, Tandigm Health and DaVita Medical Group.
Promotions
Flatiron Health promoted three of its longtime employees to the executive team. Allison Candido became the company’s chief technology officer, Kate Estep became its chief product officer, and Michael Bierl became its chief business officer. In the past, Candido worked at Amazon, Estep consulted at Deloitte, and Bierl held roles at Boston Consulting Group and NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital.
Layoffs
Cigna is letting go of about 2,000 employees, which is about 3% of the payer’s workforce. The company said the layoffs were driven by a broader cost-cutting effort amid rising healthcare spending and industry pressure to improve efficiency.
Merck is cutting about 150 jobs at its vaccine manufacturing facility in Durham, North Carolina, largely because of a significant decline in global demand for its human papillomavirus vaccine Gardasil.
PeaceHealth’s most recent round of layoffs will eliminate 94 positions across the Oregon-based health system. The job cuts come as part of cost-cutting and restructuring efforts.
Walgreens cut 628 jobs as part of its post‑private‑equity restructuring, including 469 positions in Illinois and 159 in Texas.
