Hires
Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston named Julia Mason as its new chief nursing officer. She is coming to the hospital from the MetroHealth System in Cleveland, where she currently serves as chief nursing officer for the hospital division.

DexCare — startup that gives health systems a platform to coordinate and manage digital care services — welcomed Siva Vadivelu as CFO and Kimberley Haley as senior vice president of commercial operations.
Financial technology company Paytient hired Joe Gabler as its chief growth officer. He joins the organization from Optum, where he served as senior vice president of market development.
Precision for Medicine, a biomarker-driven clinical research organization, hired Harpreet Singh as its chief medical officer. He is joining the company from the FDA, where he was serving as the agency’s oncology division director.
SFA Therapeutics, a biopharma company focusing on developing treatments for inflammatory diseases, appointed Stefan Weiss to the role of chief medical officer. Most recently, he worked as the managing director of dermatology at OM1, a healthcare data and AI company.
St. Louis-based health system SSM Health named Saad Chaudhry as its first-ever chief digital officer. He is joining the system from Maryland-based Luminis Health, where he serves as chief digital and information officer.
Promotions
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Louisiana welcomed Bryan Camerlinck as its new CEO. He succeeds Steven Udvarhelyi, who announced his retirement after 8 years as CEO. Camerlinck has been with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Louisiana since 2016, having served as both COO and CFO.
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan selected Tricia Keith as its next CEO. Next year, she will replace Daniel Loepp, who has led the company for nearly two decades. Keith, who has been with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan since 2006, currently serves as COO and president of emerging markets.
Cleveland Clinic appointed Sara Hatchett to the role of CIO. Hatchett, who had been serving as the health system’s interim CIO since August, has worked at Cleveland Clinic since 2017.
Population health company Navvis named Courtney Fortner as CEO. She’s been with the company since 2016, most recently serving as COO.
Exits
Providence announced that its CEO, Rod Hochman, will be retiring and therefore stepping down from his role in January. He has worked at Providence for nearly two decades and has held the CEO role since 2016.
Children’s Mercy CEO Paul Kempinski, who has served as the Kansas City-based organization’s CEO since 2018, announced his plan to retire. He plans to stay on as the leader of the Children’s Mercy until his replacement is selected and onboarded.
Layoffs
In early May, reports emerged that Highmark Health had laid off 47 people. This was following a round of layoffs that affected 182 employees in March. Later on in May, more reports emerged that Highmark had begun another round of job cuts, with this most recent one affecting 98 people, most of whom worked at enGen, Highmark’s IT subsidiary.
Kaiser Foundation Hospitals is laying off 76 California employees. Most of the affected employees work in marketing and IT positions.
Optum is shutting down a Change Healthcare facility in Ohio, which will result in 129 eliminated positions.
Massachusetts-based Tufts Medicine is laying off 174 people, most of whom are in administrative and non-direct patient care roles.
Walmart is laying off 74 virtual care employees in the Phoenix area.
