Lygeia Ricciardi led patient engagement activities in her previous role as director of the Office of Consumer eHealth at the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology. She left the government a year ago for personal reasons, but Ricciardi is continuing to carry the torch for patient engagement and empowerment in the private sector.
Tuesday at MedCity ENGAGE in Bethesda, Md., Ricciardi spoke on a panel about the policies and politics of engagement. We caught up with her later in the day to discuss what she’s doing these days.
As Ricciardi explains in this short video, patient engagement has not hit mainstream yet, for several reasons, but she remains optimistic that it will catch on, even if it happens slowly.
