Thirty-two community health centers in Ohio to split $8 million in stimulus dollars

Thirty-two community health centers in Ohio will receive just over $8 million in federal economic stimulus money to expand services and hours of operation. The centers were awarded the money based on plans they submitted for using American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds to expand.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Thirty-two community health centers in Ohio will receive just over $8 million in federal economic stimulus money to expand services and hours of operation, according to U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown.

The centers were awarded the money based on plans they submitted for using American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds to expand. The state’s centers serve 350,000 patients in more than 140 communities.

“During tough economic times, too many Americans don’t know where to turn when they first get sick — leading to costly emergency room visits,” said the Ohio Democrat in a written statement. “Community health centers provide critical health services that improve the well-being of Ohioans and reduce the state’s Medicaid costs.”
