Cardiology device maker ATS Medical Inc. has received Canadian regulatory approval to sell a heart valve repair product line.
ATS’ Simulus product line includes plastic bands that can be used to repair the mitral valve, which is located between the heart’s left chambers and allows blood flow in, and the tricuspid valve, which prevents the back flow of blood as it is pumped from the right atrium to the right ventricle.
The regulatory approval expands the market for the Simulus bands, according to a statement from ATS. Also, the approval further cements a new deal ATS has reached with Canadian Hospital Specialties Limited, a medical products distributor. “This new partnership will allow us to reach key opinion leaders in cardiac surgery and more fully penetrate the Canadian marketplace,” said Michael Dale, ATS’ chief executive.
