PNC’s Karen Bozzelli to lead Akron General Health foundation

The Akron General Development Foundation was founded in 1974 to provide support for the Akron General Medical Center and its related non-profit businesses.

The foundation had net assets of about $14.3 million in 2008, the most recent year for which non-profit federal tax filings are available.

”My goal to is grow the foundation, the assets of the foundation, utilizing the relationships that I’ve established over many years in this community and gain the support of the community again.” she said. ”That only makes the hospital better.”

A leader in Akron’s business and philanthropic community has been selected to head the Akron General Development Foundation.

Effective Oct. 11, Karen A. Bozzelli will serve as president of Akron General Health System’s charitable foundation.

The Akron native currently is senior vice president and senior trust adviser for wealth management at PNC Bank in Akron.

Bozzelli, 50, said her ultimate career goal has always been to work in the not-for-profit world.

”I am so excited,” she said. ”I haven’t been this excited in years. Everything that I have done in my career to date has prepared me for this position.”

Bozzelli replaces Jon Trainer, who left the organization earlier this year.

In a recent internal memo announcing the appointment, Akron General Health System President and Chief Executive Vincent J. McCorkle and foundation board Chair Peggy Lloyd said Bozzelli’s ”wide-ranging background makes her the ideal choice for this position.”
