A proposed new school of pharmacy and the existing school of health sciences at High Point University have received a $40 million donation from four local families.

Each of the families from High Point, North Carolina, donated $10 million to the university.

The donation includes a contribution from the family of High Point University President Nido Qubein. That contribution was joined by donations from the families of Earl Congdon, chairman of Old Dominion Freight Line; Fred Wilson, chairman of the board of Piedmont Chemical Industries; and Mark Norcross, founder and CEO of furniture manufacturer Mark David.

The university is in the midst of a $2.1 billion growth plan. So far, $550 million has been spent on constructing 28 new buildings and the addition of 120 new faculty members. The campus is growing from 92 acres to 300 acres. The expansion includes a proposed new school of pharmacy. North Carolina currently has three schools of pharmacy at three universities: Campbell University, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Wingate University.
