It may not be The Nutcracker, but a breast cancer charity has published a 2014 calendar with artfully posed photos of a man in a tutu. The idea behind photographer Bob Carey’s work is to amuse while providing awareness and financial support to women with breast cancer, breast cancer survivors and their family members, according to the charity’s website.

It got started 10 years ago when his wife, Linda, was diagnosed with breast cancer. Carey decided to photograph himself in different locations around the country wearing a tutu. It made her laugh as she received chemotherapy treatments. Since then, The Tutu Project has morphed into The Carey Foundation. It has also partnered with CancerCare to better distribute funds raised by the project. Men with breast cancer and their families also benefit.

The calendar is the latest fundraising effort by the Tutu Project. It has also produced a coffee-table book, Ballerina, and prints.

Another effort that has helped raise breast cancer awareness, particularly to remind women to get mammograms, is This is Mamming on Instagram.
