Healthcare.gov has sparked a lot of well-earned criticism from its users  — multiple crashes, mistake-laden applications and error messages galore that have thwarted applications. But a Massillon, Ohio man has found that perseverance has its own rewards.

Lew Garrett’s endurance test of 3,118 attempts and 49 phone calls to sign up for Obamacare insurance would seem to have paid off in the form of a big discount to his monthly healthcare payments, according to a Zanesville Times-Recorder article.

The story said the self-employed independent contractor had to find a new plan after his previous insurance policy was canceled like so many others because it didn’t conform with the Affordable Care Act. The article said he was able to get an unbelievable discount. His  previous $500 a month plan has been replaced with a new policy costing only$13 per month.

If Garrett’s monthly rate is accurate, it would be something of a dubious success story that even after thousands of attempts it’s possible to get a decent outcome.  It’s probably safe to assume that if he is singled out as an example of the significant policy discounts to be had from using the federal exchange, the details of how long it took would be conveniently overshadowed.
