Flatiron Health launches Billing Insights feature within OncologyCloud software platform

Flatiron Health has unveiled the next level of its OncologyCloud software platform with what its calling Billing Insights, which could reportedly earn practices $100,000 on average in lost costs within the first month of use.

Flatiron Health has announced additional new features and enhancements to its OncologyCloud software platform, namely what its calling Billing Insights. As of right now, almost one million cancer patients are being treated by the more than 2,000 clinicians using the platform.

The new features added to OncoAnalytics and OncoEMR are designed to reconcile billing discrepancies and help practices enhance patient care and optimize workflow while recovering lost costs. It unlocks EHR, practice management and billing data from multiple systems, and as a result deliver information in one actionable dashboard.

“As the next step in this commitment, we just launched Billing Insights (available as a new feature within OncoAnalytics), which is focused on billing and reimbursement insights,” a Flatiron Health spokesperson said in an email. “Specifically, the feature uncovers potential missed and under billed drugs by looking at data across a practice’s systems through OncoAnalytics. A Billing Manager or equivalent role at the practice can then organize and prioritize findings by loss estimate, drug type, admin date, patient and more for follow-up with payers and others as needed.”

It’s reportedly too early to identify specific trends withing different types of cancer treatments and lost costs, but with the help of this platform, many practices could bring in significant sums. A Flatiron Health spokesperson projected that “on average most practices recover more than $100,000 in the first month of using Billing Insights.”

“As any community oncology practice knows, the billing office is responsible for a multitude of diverse daily tasks,” says Barry Russo, chief executive officer, The Center for Cancer & Blood Disorders, according to a company statement. “We are excited to partner with Flatiron Health and serve as one of the first users of the Billing Insights tool in OncoAnalytics. A review of the first 12 months of extracted data helped us recover $400,000 in underbilled and missed drug billing charges, which we may not have otherwise recovered. While we do regular audits, using the tool allowed us to complete this audit in a fraction of the time it would have normally taken.”

Earlier this year Flatiron also announced its collaboration with Varian Medical Systems to create the next wave of oncology cloud-based, EHR, data analytics and decision support software. Both OncoEMR and Varian’s ARIA Radiation Oncology System will soon be interoperable.
