Amazon is in internal talks to create primary care clinics at its headquarters in Seattle, Washington, according to a CNBC report.
Initially, the plan is to hire a few physicians to open a pilot clinic for certain employees later this year, then expand the clinics to more workers in early 2019, individuals familiar with the matter told CNBC.

While the e-commerce giant was considering outsourcing its clinics, in the end, it decided to form the clinics internally, one source told the publication.
Amazon has already made a few moves to hire doctors. Last year, it brought in Christine Henningsgaard, who previously served as COO of Hometeam, a home care services provider, and vice president of operations at One Medical, a primary care group. It also hired geriatrician Martin Levine, who was formerly with Iora Health, a primary care provider focused on Medicare patients.
The Seattle organization has also been busy working on its much-hyped healthcare endeavor with J.P. Morgan and Berkshire Hathaway. The trio recently tapped Dr. Atul Gawande to lead the initiative, which will focus ways to help the three companies’ U.S. employees and their families with healthcare.
The idea of opening health clinics for employees has been a hot one lately, with Apple having launched a similar effort. Called AC Wellness, the California company’s clinics are initially intended to serve Apple’s employees in Santa Clara County, where Apple’s headquarters is located. CNBC recently reported the tech giant has hired more than 40 individuals such as technologists and health providers for AC Wellness.
