Professional services firm rolls out digital musculoskeletal care program

Employee benefits firm Aon is bundling together three digital health solutions as part of a broader musculoskeletal care offering. It's partnering with Hinge Health, 98point6 and Employer Direct Healthcare.

As more digital health companies look to bundle together point solutions, employee benefits firms are doing the same. One of them, professional services firm Aon, is launching a benefit intended to help employers reduce their costs on musculoskeletal care and improve outcomes.

The company is bundling together services from three different startups into one solution:

  • 98point6, which offers text-based primary care visits
  • Hinge Health, a startup that connects users to virtual visits with physicians, physical therapists and health coaches, and uses motion sensors to track their exercises
  • Employer Direct Healthcare, which navigation employees to facilities and surgeons of excellence where it has pre-negotiated bundled rates

The goal is to address variations in the cost and quality of care, and help employees get care in the right setting at the right time.

“Musculoskeletal ailments are among the largest cost drivers for employer health plans,” Michael Murphy, senior vice president of health innovation for Aon, said in a news release. “With more employees working from home during the Covid pandemic, these trends are being exacerbated, providing an opportunity to help more people access high-quality, affordable musculoskeletal care.”

The Chicago-based firm offers health, reinsurance and retirement services for employers. Aon said it has thousands of clients, but it declined to name them. In the first quarter of 2021, its health solutions business brought in $536 million, according to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
