MedCity Pivot Podcast: Health Equity in Opioid Addiction Treatment With Dr. Brian Clear

Dr. Brian Clear, an addiction treatment physician and chief medical officer of Bicycle Health, believes that telemedicine is one way to improve access and reduce the inequities inherence in addiction treatment. The other is education.

These numbers are astounding.

Between 1999 and 2021, nearly 645,000 people died of an opioid overdose. That’s in 22 years. Since the end of the Revolutionary War in 1783, the cumulative deaths from all American wars is nearly 647000 people died. That’s in 240 years.

Treatments are of course now, thankfully, available but not everyone is able to get them easily. And that was the crux of my conversation with Dr. Brian Clear, an addiction treatment specialist and chief medical officer of Bicycle Health, a platform that provides opioid addiction treatment online.
