Memorial Sloan Kettering selects MyHealthDirect solution for patient self-scheduling

Using the tool, MSK patients can book appointments online with providers in the lymphoma, breast surgery and medical oncology, myeloma, and thoracic surgery and medical oncology service areas.

In an effort to enable online patient self-scheduling, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center has deployed a solution from MyHealthDirect, a Nashville, Tennessee-based company that provides digital care coordination solutions.

Through the tool, patients can book appointments with providers in the lymphoma, breast surgery and medical oncology, myeloma, and thoracic surgery and medical oncology service areas.

The solution integrates with Memorial Sloan Kettering’s Epic EHR system and is customized based on providers’ scheduling rules. From the patient perspective, individuals can answer questions online, which guide them to the best provider and appointment slot for their needs.

In a phone interview, MyHealthDirect COO Jason Kressel explained the story behind the New York City cancer center implementing his company’s tool.

“Specialty hospitals and academic centers I think have a perception of being a little more difficult to get into,” he said. “Specifically for Memorial Sloan Kettering, they were interested in making it easier and less stressful for their patients to secure an appointment with one of their providers.”

Before implementing MyHealthDirect’s solution, the organization had a capability that allowed patients to request an appointment, but wanted to enhance that and give patients the power to schedule visits online, Kressel said.

After reviewing MyHealthDirect’s abilities, Memorial Sloan Kettering decided to move forward with deploying the Nashville company’s solution.

Looking ahead, Kressel said his company hopes to expand the current use case it has with the cancer center.

Founded in 2006, MyHealthDirect has provider and payer customers. On the provider side, in addition to the patient self-scheduling tool, it has solutions for healthcare call centers, provider referral networks and patient outreach. The company’s insurer offerings are for health plan call centers, member referral coordination, member outreach and member self-scheduling. MyHealthDirect also has analytics tools for providers and payers to help them understand their scheduling data.
